Chuck Berry played New York on New Year's Eve and has several more shows lined up this year.

Elvis' Birthday Week

Elvis Presley birthday tribute week combines two major anniversaries this year -- the 35th anniversary of Elvis' death and the 30th anniversary of Graceland's opening as a tourist attraction.

The week gets under way Thursday with the opening of a new exhibit, "Elvis On Tour," celebrating the 1972 Golden Globe-winning documentary film about Elvis' multicity tour during April of that year. The tribute week ends on Sunday, which would have been Elvis' 77th birthday. Sunday's tribute includes a cake cutting on the front lawn of Graceland.

Friends and neighbors, I've been running Psychobilly Freakout for over 7 years now, or at least some semblance of it on various radio stations. It began on Album 88 as a couple of weekend specialty shows just to test the water to see if there was interest. People listened, loved it, and the show became a Monday night staple. Mondays at 8pm eastern has been the home of the show since it began.

I also decided immediately that there was so much good rockabilly AND psychobilly music that I couldn't just focus on one genre or the other - I mixed the two of them. Some people love to hate one genre or the other - I don't know why since one spawn the other and outside of a few psychobilly bands, they're very very similar.

I'm writing this post because I've been doing this show so long I may not know what you - the listeners and lovers of this music - want anymore.

*Are you sick of the mix of styles?
*Do you want to hear more of one style than the other?
*How about the variety - does the show need to be mixed up with more artists I don't play enough music from?
*What about the time and day the show airs? Does the live show not matter because you listen through iTunes whenever you want to?
*How did you find out about the show?

You see, this show is my baby, but the music is not played to entertain me - it's played to entertain YOU. So, I really need you to take a minute and give me your input. Your thoughts will definitely play into the future of the show. Constructive criticism is received better than "ur show sux!"

It's been over a year since Reverend Horton Heat came to Atlanta. Last time he was here he had a photographer choked to the ground and tossed around backstage.

Now, I know the photographer was being a dick because Jim asked him to stop taking his picture while the lights were out, but how it was handled was complete and total bullshit.

Here's hoping tonight's show with the Supersuckers at The Masquerade goes down looking less like the WWE and more like a rock 'n' roll show.

Virtual Depression

I'm posting this for some friends who MIGHT see this, people who randomly visit this page, and also for myself.

Remember, just because people are posting about how much fun they're having and upload a bunch of pictures about the fun they had last night, this doesn't mean your life is any less awesome. It may just be awesome in a different way.

You might not go out or get invited to an event, but don't let that bring you down. Make your own fun, do NOT depend on other people to provide you with your life's entertainment. If you find yourself sitting at home night after night wondering when someone is going to ask you to come hang out, you need to stop right now. You need to be making your own fun and you should be the one inviting people out.

Don't fall into the trap of social media depression. Kick open your own door and make your own fun.

The gorgeous and talented Kim Lenz is playing the Star Bar Feb 23rd. Yes, it's a school night, but it's going to be a great show. This little lady is not only a looker, but she has a hell of a voice.

Then Friday the 25th, Big Sandy will be playing the Star Bar. A big man with big talent - another do not miss show.

Saturday the 26th, I'll be DJing at The Masquerade while The Atomic Rockets and Flathead Mike tear it up live! Free Jello shots, burlesque, and plenty of vendors fill out the night.

Tunes From the Tombs is a fund-raising event held on May 21 and 22, 2011 designed with the purpose to insure that Oakland's splendor and history will endure for years to come.

For a small donation, attendees will be treated to over 100 musicians throughout the weekend while strolling about the grounds of Oakland. And there'll be plenty of spirits: wine and beer, plus a variety of local foods.

Just a fun little FYI about The Third Annual Hollyfest, Jonny at the Plaza Theatre and I tried to get our hands on a copy of The Buddy Holly Story starring Gary Busey. Unfortunately, no copies were found. Even though the movie is incredibly erroneous, it's still a fun flick.

Elvis Royale Ticket Giveaway on PoBF Tonight

Tonight I'm giving away two pairs of tickets to the Kingsized Elvis Royale show, the Friday night show. If you've never seen Kingsized before, they're a treat! We Lost A Treasure Today

In case you hadn't heard, we lost a legend today (8/2). Billy Lee Riley passed away after a long battle with cancer. He's a man who didn't end up with a lot of notoriety, like Elvis or Cash, but he was a fun energetic performer who always kept a smile on his face while onstage.

I had the pleasure of meeting Billy a couple of years ago while in Green Bay at a music festival. We discussed his life, music, and how Flying Saucer Rock And Roll was one of the most covered songs ever written. He said hundreds of artists had recorded covers of it and he was proud that there was a band who named themselves after his song. It was a fun kitschy almost punk-rock tune, especially for the 50's.

I told him I was adopting him as my grandfather after our conversation. He laughed, shook my hand, and we went our separate ways.

He may be passed, but his name will never be forgotten. I leave you with a performance of his back in 1980. If this doesn't turn you into a BLR fan, then you have no musical soul.

Atlanta HorrorFest update

Ghouls and goblins beware, we're less than three months away from the Fourth Annual Atlanta HorrorFest! This year's HorrorFest will be returning to Lenny's Bar for all your musical needs and will take place on October 2 - 3rd. The Buried Alive Film Festival will take place at the Plaza Theater.

Some of the bands that are being considered for this year's festival are Psychocharger, Screamin' Demons, Dead Rites, Drop Dead Nasty, Flathead Mike & The Mercurys, and HorrorFest favorites The Creeping Cruds. More bands will be added to this list as the weeks go by and there might be a couple of very special guests performing at this year's event!

Don't forget, the 3rd annual Zombie Walk will take place October 4th and it's FREE for all ages to participate!

Sasquatch Rocked The Joint

Last night Junior Dolan & Cash smacked me around. The Cogburns teased me, then tossed me out of the house. The DeadTowners backed their car over me. Sasquatch murdered me with an evil grin on his face. The Godamn Gallows threw me in a hole and covered me up.

The Sasquatch show at Lenny's was a riot. Dave came up to me and said (basically), "I've had 6 hours of sleep in the last two days, my allerigies are acting up on me, and all I want is a god damn beer so I can play!" He was in top form, despite lack of sleep, and was as entertaining as ever. Until he returns, I'll be listening to Storming The Gates, which you can buy at their website.

I love this guy.

HollyFest II

Earlier this year I put together a show at Lenny's Bar called The Day The Music Died - it was to celebrate the music of Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens. I had 10 or so bands get onstage and perform 2 to 4 songs from any of these three artists. It was a sight to behold!

I just confirmed today January 30th of 2010 as the second annual, newly dubbed, HollyFest. It will again be held at Lenny's. Why HollyFest? Because Buddy Holly was the most prominent of the three musicians and it's shorter than The Day The Music Died II. That shit gets tight on a poster.

This one will change a little as I want the bands involved to have more time onstage. They'll have to perform at least 2 songs from any of the above three artists, but they're also allowed to perform up to 3 of their own songs. I think I'll need to put in a rule that we can't have extended solos that make In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida look short.

So, plan for it. Saturday January 30th, 2010. No bands scheduled yet, but this is the place to find out about them.

Just Some Ramblings

I'm involved with a new online radio station called Garage 71. You can find it listed on Live365. Every Monday night at 8p Eastern beginning July 13th you'll be able to hear my spinning rockabilly, psychobilly, early rock, and horror punk.

A small group of friends and I will be putting out an online rockabilly magazine. The kickoff date is August 28th. It'll focus on Atlanta, the Southeast, and a bit nationally/globally.

Another band potentially playing Drive Invasion this year: Southern Culture on the Skids.

The Screamin' Demons reunion show was a success. Plenty of people showed, lots of beer was consumed, we even had a mosh pit for part of the night.

It's A Psychobilly Freakout!

In non-Michael Jackson news, looks like I will be bringing back Psychobilly Freakout - my old radio show featuring rockabilly, psychobilly, and "oldies" rock 'n' roll. A buddy of mine recently acquired an Internet radio station and wants me involved.

The station is currently a work in progress, but it's going to feature early rock, rockabilly, garage rock, surf, and anything else you might hear when you walk into a 1950's car shop.

Don't forget, tomorrow in Buford is the King Daddy Polecats event at Triple Play and in the evening the Screamin' Demons make their return to the Atlanta music scene. You should come out for one (or both) of these events and not just because I'm a part of both. You should come because both events are guaranteed to be a blast.

Drive Invasion Update

In case you hadn't heard, this year's Drive Invasion will only be one day - September 6th. The main reason is to cut down on costs and make the event more affordable given our current economic state.

I'm proud to say I was able to get Wanda Jackson booked for DI this year and she'll be one of the headliners. I'm waiting for the contract to arrive and we're already working on a band for her. I believe Johnny "Knox" McGowan is headlining this search.

Also in the works is The Fleshtones. Possibly Grinder Nova.

I'm working to get a couple more bands booked, such as Flathead Mike & The Mercurys and The Creeping Cruds. I'm not booking the event, but I am providing Bryan Malone (Star Bar and The Forty Fives) with a little assistance.

I'll provide you with more information as it unfolds.

Saturday night at the Star Bar a friend came up and informed me that she had recently spoken to some people who were thinking of opening a "rockabilly" bar in the Midtown area. I'm not sure where or who these people are, but it would definitely help spread out the local scene from L5P and EAV.

I'll update with more information as I receive it. This is, literally, all I know at the moment. Well, all I'm at liberty to say without being waterboarded.
